How Nintendo DS Action Replay codes work

Most guides in this directory use Nintendo DS Action Replay format. A code usually checks or changes values in the game’s memory, and some blocks wait for a button combination such as Select or L + R before applying the change.

  1. Open the guide for the exact game.
  2. Confirm its region, four-letter game code and complete Game ID.
  3. Back up the save before enabling anything.
  4. Paste one complete Action Replay block without removing lines.
  5. Load gameplay, use the stated activation buttons and disable the cheat after the result appears.

Nintendo DS cheat code FAQ

Why does an Action Replay code appear but do nothing?

The usual causes are a different region or revision, the wrong Game ID, a missing line, incorrect cheat format, an activation button used too early, or conflicting codes. Disable everything else and test one complete block after gameplay loads.

Can Diamond codes be used in Pearl or Platinum?

Never assume so. Closely related games can use different identifiers and addresses. Follow the separate guide for the exact title being played.

Do these codes work in DS emulators?

They can work when an emulator correctly supports Action Replay DS codes, but implementation varies. Choose Action Replay—not GameShark or CodeBreaker—and follow the guide’s release details.

Can cheats damage a save?

Yes. Inventory, progression, movement and Pokémon-data codes can make lasting changes. Keep an untouched backup, enable one code at a time and never save while outside normal map boundaries.
